I let the GraphiQ tame the nodes and saturated freqs, and use the dual 31-band to shape the sound... which isn't difficult, thanks to the 322As. The Peavey and DBX are for notching up to four wedge mixes, when that's applicable. The 80G iPod Classic is for my impeccable walk-in music selection playlists. Doing mobile DJ for 20+ years left a pretty decent library.

In the background is a 6x8 rear screen lit by a 2.5k Proxima with a short zoom (the 6.5k is in use in the luncheon room), panel table with 6 shockmounted SM58 on table stands, stage computer stand (2 stage feeds, one for my trusty Dell, one for a guest computer), DI'd computer audio line, and a shockmounted Beta 87a on the lectern. Loudspeakers are RCF ART322a.

Love the pack (8' of a 6x10 trailer) and the fact that it all plays so well together in these scenarios.

And, it does keep a roof over my head, sustenance in my belly, and refined petrochemical juice in the WünderWägen.

It's rarely boring.

I love the double stacked chair. i used to do the same so i could see over my console in AV gigs

Actually I don't know, never did an A/B shootout. All I can tell that the UFX is a beast for what you pay.

All we ever use for live -- minus the monitors , of course,,,,

24 channels ready to go --under your arm -- about $600 theses days -- cheaper than an 24ch interface

I guess the "ghetto" part stops about, ohhh... the B&Ks...? They might be "oldskool", but hardly qualify as "ghetto", methinks.

Let us know how the dock works on a longer-tern "real" recording...

I strummed something about 40 min., no problems. Nice that all are working with battery. And yes, my place is very ghetto

I'm also trying to get ready my GhettoReceiver

See attachment of AD & pres.

I have parts, but I sould do some kind of box for those. All working with 12 volt. 2 Ch tube, 4 ch solid, mini pc, touch screen, lynx AES16... but some problems with WC & ti PCM4222EVM

based on this recipe, pres. are different.
Recipe: how to cook a best in class 2-ch pre-amp with a/d convertor?

This is the latest thing here.

It's a custom made 4 channel mic amp offering 60 volt powering for 60 volt microphones. It also offers standard 48 volt phantom.

The whole thing runs on batteries.

Compared to the usual good sound, here the stereo picture is much more defined, small details are portrayed better, resolution of room sound is much better.

There is an effortless quality to the sound.

thankyasomuch!

My new mobile rig.
Well, the 2 racks that are the meat of it, anyway... minus laptop and external drive. And microphone case, stands and snake/cables, monitors when necessary. Borrow 8 more channels when needed.
Rent off-season ski lodge?
Profit?

When Studios break down...

A few weeks back, some friends had booked in to lay some B-sides for a single they were releasing off their debut EP. We'd figured the easiest thing would just to be rock up to a studio, where most things are set up ready to go.

The night before the allotted day, the owner of the studio contacted the band, explaining he was experiencing computer dramas, and it didn't seem like any tracking would be possible any time soon. For the band, postponing wasn't an option, as one of the members was off on tour working and wouldn't be able to lay the material according to the production schedule timelines (release dates, overseas tour etc).
After a quick chat, explaining I had a rig capable of recording up to 18 lines, but no space, and some figuring out how to integrate our two systems together (console is wired via bantam patch bay, hitting HD system on some TRS some DB25), we decided to forge ahead and give it a crack - his console my rig.
The initial concerns regarding getting signal into my rig from his console were allayed as my ASP008 allowed for DB25 line inputs, rather than the combo xlr/jack which other brands use.

Rolled in and set up with the band the next day and the integration worked seamlessly.
Well worth the effort and the results were definitely rewarding.

Can you comment on the performance of the Andiamo? Nobody did before here. Did you compare it directly with other gear?
Thanks, Ulrich

Hello Ulrich,

I did not have had the time to A/B test the converters, but so far it sounds all fine to me so far.

Pair 414s -> RME UFX -> Pro Tools 9

Considering switching DAWs for the location recording, because if I lost the iLok I could use a mouse instead of the trackpad. :p

If it's straight location tracking it doesn't matter what you use at all.

After several years of fine tuning my rig to meet the needs of my business and clients, I've finally hit on a real winning setup. Thanks to Harry Butler and others for sharing their experiences with the StudioLive 24. I couldn't be happier with it!

The purchase of the StudioLive 24.4.2 allows the addition of FOH, FB, Broadcast, and live reference mixing to my list of services. Diversity is the way to go these days. I can even connect my HD video camera to the macbook and operate a self contained webcast to livestream or Ustream - all in a rig that would fit in a bathroom stall (although I have yet to be in such a circumstance!).

The upgrade path is to add a couple more cameras, a Blackmagic Design Television Studio, some RGB LED color wash fixtures, powered monitor and FOH speakers, and a projector and screen to my inventory. I envision the growth of my business into a full service audio/video production company, bringing previously prohibitively expensive options to a larger market of performers and event coordinators.

Hate it! The front cover that folds down for what marketing calls a "convenient mousepad" is more of a large protrusion that gets in the way and pushes you back from the laptop too much; between my not-so-great eyes and the 13 inch screen on my laptop, I wish I'd went with another rack...
