Question Gear rental in Vancouver, BC

Hey guys,
So I'm doing a live recording of a 10-piece big band in March out in Vancouver, B.C., and I need a place to rent equipment from (as I live in Brooklyn, and it would be pretty much way more cost-effective and easy to rent stuff than truck it out... plus I don't actually own very much of my own recording equipment!).

Anyway, I'm looking for a place that will be able to rent me microphones (a fairly wide variety), preamps (something nice, could just be a nice board or something), and a hard disk recorder like a Tascam MX-2424. Oh, and a mic splitter (I'm using my computer system as a backup).

If you know of anyone who can do this, please point me in the direction!
Thanks a bunch,
Eric H-S

you could go with an idea like this...

Digital Sound Magic Studios - Professional Recording, Mastering and Production Studio

I have no experience with this company, I just did a search for mobile recording studio vancouver bc and they came up first... just sayin that maybe a ready to go - fully functioning 'buggs all worked out' system is the least stressful way to go.

Take away all the setup, cables, pickup, dropoff, etc...

All you are left with is getting a good sound.

That sounds like a LOT more fun to me.

Nothing against L&M, they treat me well.

As Dave already said,....Long&McQuade.

Not sure they'll let ya rent high end stuff without having some track record and history, but never hurts to ask. And since I assume you're Amercian you may wanna call them ahead of time and find out what their policy is for renting gear if you're not from the Vancouver area. If you're not legally able to rent the gear, perhaps you could get someone in the band to sign out the gear for you.

Oh and make sure you deal with the Vancouver L&M for the best and biggest rental selection. It is a chain, so there are a few other L&M locations throughout the Lower Mainland.

I called up both Vancouver L&M branches, and it sounds like they really don't have much of a selection of high-end gear for rental.

Any other suggestions? Or does anyone know a great studio out there who'd be willing to rent me a mobile rig and a bunch of mics?

Moozak Mobile/Remote Recording Services in Vancouver

You've probably got things sorted out by now, as I believe your recording was scheduled for March, however in the future let us know if you have any mobile/remote recording needs in the Vancouver Area. We specialize in mobile recording and use a 3 ton cube truck running Protools HD and an Alesis HD24 hard disk recorder. We have a Radial/Jensen split snake and some decent outboard and a nice microphone selection. Cheers,

Luminant Audio

I realize it's a little late for THIS gig, but I am located in Seattle Washington, not too far from Vancouver BC. Check out the site: www.luminantaudio.com. My primary mobile rig is a 48 input PTHD3 Accel system. I have lot's of great mics' and pre's, and access to even more. I have a few other hard disk recorders as well. Typically, I come with the gear and don't do straight rentals, but that doesn't mean that I have to be the guy running it. I'm happy to be the truck driver/assistant who make's sure you get set up and everything is running as it should be. If you ever need something in the northwest, feel free to give me a ring.

I've attached a couple of pictures.
