Question M-Audio field recorder 1/4" to XLR

I plan on purchasing the M-Audio II Field recorder which has two 1/4" inputs with 48 volt. In order to connect my mic to the unit I'll need an adapter. I can either connect an adapter that has a 1/4" male on the front and an XLR female on the back or I can connect with a cable that is 1/4" male on one end and XLR female on the other. Is one solution better than the other? What do you suggest oh wise ones?

Thnx

1st it must be 1/4 trs. I'd use the cable because that big adapter hanging off the recorder could easily cause it's destruction.

That was the same thing that the sales person at Guitar Center suggested. They have Mogami cables that have 1/4" male on one end and XLR female on the other. Why do you suggest trs?

1. Sleeve: usually ground
2. Ring: Right-hand channel for stereo signals, negative phase for balanced mono signals, power supply for power-requiring mono signal sources
3. Tip: Left-hand channel for stereo signals, positive phase for balanced mono signals, signal line for unbalanced mono signals

TRS can supply the power needed. It also has low noise.
