Sonic Studio vs Metric Halo

Hi Gear Slutz,

I discovered that the Sonic Studio units look very simular to the Metric Halo stuff, what are the differences and how good are they. Are there also price differences and why?

- the Sonic stuff has the Sonic 'Classic EQ' available to the +DSP portion. The MH stuff doesn't.

- the Sonic stuff is way more expensive

I can't speak about the performance, I've never A/B'd, the above are strictly factual notes.

they're made by MH, yes, not sure if they're 'upgraded' ...

these prices are from last year, they may have gone up. the numbers below are ex-VAT.

Model 302 - €2150
Model 304 - €4495

there is a 303 and a 305 as well but I don't have any price info on those.

I will be buying very soon a firewire interface and I am investigating what would suit me best and find it very hard to make the right decision.

Want to be able to record high end classical as well as pop music and Jazz.
What I have now for remote recordings is:

AMEK DMCL 2 ch, Class A Pre-amP/Comp?Lim AD converter
Mbox2
Bruel & Kjaer DPA 4006 2x
AKG 414 2x
AKG CK391 2x
Neumann TLM 193

What interface would you recommend:

Metric Halo 2882 DSP
Fireface 800
MOTU 896HD
KORG MR-1000 Recorder
or any other

Some salesmen say the Metric Halo sounds more warm and converter could be compared with Apogee Rosetta and the pre-amps are not as thin and clean as Fireface.

in addition to dsp differences (some of which may be only available to the sonic software?), i believe there are other upgrades made to the analog path / audio path. the guys at sonicstudio.com will tell you what's up, they're great.
