Hey guys sorry sorry sorry for yet another post of this nature, but I just can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. did a bunch of searching for power distribution, conditioning, and such - and while there IS an abundance already covered, I believe I may have certain requirements that are not. Thing is, most people are using laptops or hard disk recorders in their mobile setup, which would seem to have different (smaller?) power requirements. I'll be rolling with a Stephens 2" machine and an analog console, in addition to some outboard. I'd like to configure some power systems that meet my needs - from the ideal money-and-space-are-no-object to options that fit my space and budget. Could someone enlighten me as to any special considerations i need to make, and how to go about fitting the gear to the power requirements? Where to start? the power specs from the manuals? thank you thank you thank you |

hahaha - the exact search I tried first. I'll read through them again. I'm looking for specific power needs of older analog equipment, if they exist. Thanks |

Start with the manuals to know what the operating voltage and amperage draw is. With the tape machine, you have to measure the intake when you power up or start the capstans, which create a surge in amperage draw. Most likely you are looking at simply specifying one or more 20amp dedicated circuits if you are working in the USA at 110V. The Stephens 2" won't draw more than a couple of amps, but the power supply rack for the analog console might be a different story, depends on the desk and PSU situation. If you're looking at a Midas dual redundant or a Cadac...and many Cadac PSUs require 208, depending on which model or design. |
