Question what kind of schoeps is this in the photo?

hello friends!

a boy could sell me in italy this schoeps for 350 euros.
i think it is an old model.
what i do? buy?
1) for you is it a cardioid pattern?
2) how old can it be?
3) is it sound good and the same (neutral) as the new versions?

thanks Alessandro.

Alessandro,

I can not tell by the picture whether the preamp is a CMC 4,5,or 6. It is NOT a 221b.
But it will say on the bottom of the mic, stencilled on the lower ring. Ask him to tell you exactly what it says.

Also, he must remove (unscrew) the capsule and read the model from the bottom of the capsule to tell you what version/pattern it is. MK2 (which is omni), MK4 (cardioid) etc.

Hope this helps!

350 Euro is a fair price for a used Schoeps in good condition.

Problem is, you have no idea if it's any good, or what kind of shape its in. It could have been rained on, dropped, etc. If you have to send it to Schoeps for service/repair, it will be very expensive.

You have to decide whether you want a classic neutral mic and are willing to take the chance on used goods. Never an easy decision!

It's either an MK4 cardioid, MK21 wide, or MK41 hyper cap, as the MK5 has the pattern switch and the omnis (2 and 3) don't have any openings at the sides.
The caps usually have the pattern on the outside too.
Usually you get them in nextel grey nowadays, but I think the nickel finish is still available as an option. The guts inside are the same.
