I have a small tour coming up where I'll be mixing on PM5D consoles in each house. However, I cannot guarantee that they will all have the same version of the software on them... I'm planning on saving settings to make it easier to run shows that won't have much of a sound check. However, I've had issues in the past with Yamaha consoles when it comes to backwards compatability. Once I had a .03 difference in firmware on an M7CL and I just couldn't load the show... Period. Nothing I could do. This may be an issue again as it is going to be tough to specify a certain firmware on it. For the folks that use these consoles, how would you suggest dealing with this? What is the easiest way to save settings in a way that can be loaded regardless of console firmware. Thanks! --Ben |

Hi Ben, there are versions of the studio manager for V1 and V2. To be save, I would take both and have a similar setup for them. When you would like to dump your setup and scenes (override the consoles setting you found i the new place), you have to create your first setup with an connected PM5D ! If that´s not possible: First you have to load board settings to your studiomanager and than dump your scenes back (be carefull with patches, that may not work with the house output routings) Regards Marcus

Fun- I was worried it would be something like that... I think it is going to depend on how house systems are set up as far as patch, room EQ and everything is concerned. --Ben |

In addition to Marcus' post, I aways suggest carrying a PCMCIA card for each version as well as the computer- I have had some issues where a house desk had preferences that did not want to recognize my laptop, so loading the show from card was easiest. It's also an easy way to save their house setup and re-load it after if they are not very digital console savvy - mostly places that are new to all-digital setups. Make sure you specify whether you expect v1 or v2 and RH or non-RH versions in your tour specification!!!! At least the house should contact you if they don't have the right one. Hope this helps! Good luck, Ben. thumbsup Let us know how it goes? JvB |
