Hey Slutz my setup goes like this: nord stage in mono rhodes in mono>moog phaser>moog delay microkorg in mono moog lp in mono>boss re-20 tape delay pedal all running into a mackie 1202vlz pro i want individual control over the monitor stage levels but dont want to affect the out front sound level when i change my own monitoring levels on the desk.whats the best way to do this? not sure if the routing on the desk allows this or whether i need additional splitter boxes cables or something else any help much appreciated Thanks |

I believe you can do what's known as a "pre fade aux send". Any changes to the fader won't affect the level of sound to the house. I think you can control your levels to the monitor using the aux send knobs. Arthur |

Pre-fader aux sends are traditionally the way to go with monitor mixes. Tried and true.

+2 baby... I second that concept. It's the best way to handle the task!

Hey, I understand this situation quite differently- You might asking a question regarding "mixing yourself to monitors" while there's a show, that won't affect the FOH sound - right? You can connect all the synth to DI's and use the DI's link option to connect them to the Mackie mixer. Than you connect the Mackie's L-R (Mainmix) to Stagebox as "KB Sub-mix" and ask the soundguy to send your monitor Only the "KB Sub-mix" to start mixing yourself without affecting the House sound. Keep in mind that all the DI's outputs should be connected to stagebox as well. That way, The foh soundguy get's to mix all your lines while you are mixing yourself to monitors. If you're using Headphones, this can be a bit different situation - That way you can ask to Receive the "monitor" line from FOH direct as a channel on the Mackie and use the headphones amp on the desk /w your headphones (And butofcourse, he doesn't have to send you your Keyboard's lines - they are already there !;-)) All in all, There's are unlimited ways to feel comftarble on stage, part of 2007 i've been touring as foh engineer for an electro band that used a Bass Amp to monitor a Nord modular - So there's actually many ways to make yourself at home @ stage, Bring your thoughts specificly for your show, that's way we can help you the most. Are you using Headphones or Wedges? Best regards, Noam. |

OK...however the original post stated everything was running into the Mackie. There's no mention of DI's. Based on the orginal post with the current setup I think the pre fader aux sends are the best way to go...just trying to keep it simple. Arthur

I don't trust live sound guys to mix my keyboards for me. They're notorious for turning things down or off when nothing's coming in on a channel. I just give the guy a mono send from my mixer. He's got enough to do without trying to deal with 4 more channels. I mean, how many times can you actually hear the keyboards in a live show? It's all kick, snare, and bass, and a faint tinkling sound when the keyboard gets featured, that is until the solo is almost over, which is when it finally gets turned up.

Based on the original post (IMO) the pre fader aux send is the way to go. Quote:
Some folks go by smart logic and do the right thing. Good LS mixers maybe far and in between in some areas of our world, but they are around and willing to make everthing sound like it should sound, especially in the (pro audio) live sound world. IMO, if an enginner has a problem with four extra channels you're going the right thing giving him a mono (or stereo please!) feed. Many live sound engineer's get the kick and snare sounding right and stop there. I'm not sure why this pheonomenon occurs, but I've heard this way too many times. The kick, snare and vocals sound like a record, but everything else is lost in the sauce. Crazy stuff.
