Exclamation Best in-ear monitor headphones??

Just searching for some opinions about the best there is in the in-ear monitoring business.

I have Beyer Dynamics but am searching for something more practical, but still good.
Thanks!

Don't know what the best is, but the custom fitted etymotic research ones sound good and isolate very well, but I dont know is they make it anymore.

The ER4 is a good non custom one at $299.

I'll second the ER4. I have the ER4B which has the flattest response curve. It may be a bit shrill to some. It is excellent for isolation, has great bass and is a good, all around earphone. Plus they are tiny: you can put the in your watch pocket. The only negative is that sometimes they are difficult to get out of your ears. Other than that they are great. I have had a pair for 10+ years and love them. Shop for price.

Cheers

Find a driver you like and get it custom molded, thats the best in ears

+1 on Etymotic

I haven't tried those particular Etymotics, but the cheaper ones I thought weren't that great. Very inefficient and weak in the lows.

I like the new Futuresonic Atrios. I use them with a pair of Westone ear molds built for their UM1s (which have their place, but aren't very hifi) and they sound very nice.

I've also used the Ultimate Ears superfi 5 pros. I thought they worked well, but the foam and rubber tips they come with didn't fit my ears all that well.

Thanks guys!

Im actually not searching for something bass-rich.
It should be as flat as possible, so I dont know if the futuresonic atrios would be my choice...

I dont think that the etymotics cut down on the lows... ?

How about ER 4P?

The ER4S is what you want for audio work. However, the ER4P has a different, softer, cable to reduce microphonics when bouncing around with an mp3 player. This was confirmed to me, over the phone, by someone at Ety.

I bought the ER4P along with the P/S conversion cable, and got the best of both worlds.

I've been using Westone UM2's for years, and I love them.

I find that a good stereo mix makes all the difference. Buying $600-$1000 monitors and feeding them a crappy mono mix is a shame. I can highly recommend the Allen & Heath 12M as an excellent monitor mixer on the cheap.

I'll second the Westone UM2s. I am in a band and I've tried almost every (non-molded) in-ear out there. The UM2s are the most comfortable and best-sounding I've ever used. So much so I recently bought myself a pair!
