he never recorded any of his classical playing, i don't believe.

another thing was he was fascinated w. technology, the synclavier and the like. i don't know if he ever released any of his electronic stuff, either?

maybe there is alot of unreleased recorded music?!?!?
There are some Bach pieces by OP on eMusic. I have them.

As a proud Canadian and a Jazz fan I had to pay my respects here even though I am a little late to post on this thread.

Oscar was a rare blend of virtuosity, sublime taste, impeccable swing/feel and a wonderfully humble human being..... a VERY rare combination indeed.

Such a great loss but what a fantastic legacy he has left behind.

Oscar, you will be missed but definitely not forgotten, thanks for the memories.

Once, in my teens (pre www), late at night flipping through the TV channels (all 4 of them, good ol’ rural northern Ontario TV!), I heard this music that totally captivated me. It was on the Ontario Legislative Channel after it had signed off for the day… instead of a tone, they would play music. I knew nothing about jazz, but I couldn’t stop listening. The drums and bass blew my mind …and the piano! Oh man, the piano!!

For the next little while I spent many a late night checking out this “off-air” channel late hoping to again catch that amazing piano-jazz music, and was occasionally rewarded. On these lucky nights I’d sit listening, in a daze staring at the Ontario coat of arms crest on the screen, until I heard the first song come around again, and sometimes two full rotations would go by. Much later on I finally heard on CBC radio, that unmistakable playing… that’s how I found out about Oscar Petersen.

Thanks for expanding my horizons Oscar.
