Talking Pics of Birdland Gig

Figured I'd join the fun and post some pictures of a gig I did with my friend Scott Young on Tuesday:

Looks pretty good!

Can you tell us what your rig is? I can't make out everything...
Any additional mics you brought or put up?
Did you split with the house PA?

From the top down:

Apogee AD16
Alesis HD24
Sytek
Hardy M-2
Digi002 rack (backup recorder/monitoring)
Millennia HV3D

On the side there is a Mytek Stereo96 ADC and a Mackie 1202 VLZ3 - one of the channels on the Millennia went bad on Sunday and I am waiting for the replacement, so I had to go with one of the Mackie channels for that, and I used two more for the background vocals - we were running 18 tracks total.

The artist brought her own KMS105. We used the Earthworks that are already in the piano and the house threw up a pair of 58's for the background vocals. The bass player had an AMT mic (and a DI that buzzed like crazy no matter what).

We supplied a few mic's - KM130's for the room, Schoeps CMC64's for the overheads, M88 on Kick, SM57's on Snare, Djembe, and Guitar Amp, C414 on the acoustic guitar, Radial DI for the pickup, and 421 on the clay drum.

We split 12 channels with the house.

Thumbs up Sweet

Looks like a very nice rig Robert.

…and your work ethic is top class and I can vouch for that.

I bet it was an awesome session.

Keep it up bro!

Thanks Steve!
It was an awesome gig - Scott's a fantastic engineer and a great guy to work with, Melissa is a sweetheart and she can really sing, the players were top notch, and Sean was great (as usual) on the live sound.

I was hoping to try out your kit mic technique on this gig (that sounded amazing!), but there was no room to set it up - the drummer literally had his back against the wall.

Very nostalgic for me. As a teenager in the late 50's and early 60's I would make an evening at the old Birdland. I think it was $2.00 or $2.50 to get in to the cheap seats left of the stage and in front of the bar. I would be there sometimes from opening to closing. What a night!

The new one looks like the old one: crowded on a small stage and great. Mulligan had his concert jazz band on the stage once and blew the walls down. Seems like only yesterday. LOL

I'll bet you got a good recording. Thanks for helping keep jazz alive.

Cheers
