Question External HD for mobile rigs?

What do you guys use as far as external HDs? Thus far I have been using my Macbook Pros HD and that is not working bad. But as I am currently installing Logic Pro 8 and watching my internal HD dwindle away it's clear that I am going to have to get an external. Even after doing some serious e-house cleaning I am never going to get more than 20 GB's of free space. And I know that I should be using an external anyway but have just been putting it off.

So,

Will any HD do (lacie etc) or are there dedicated audio recording HDs?

Oh, I use a firepod an it connects via firewire 400. I'd like to take advantage of my firewire 800 input on the MBP if possible as my FW 400 is taken.

I use the 500G from Maxx Digital and it has been rock solid for me. I will caution you though, it is a fan cooled unit and can be noisy. But, I have made some crafty devices to avoid bleed into the mics, when recording in the same room.

Maxx Entertainment Digital - Pro Audio and Video Solutions

Another one of my associates uses the OtherWorld drives. There are several different versions, some internally cooled and other fan cooled.

Hard Drives for SATA, IDE, ATA - Notebook Hard Drives, Desktop Hard Drives, Internal and External Options with FireWire, USB2, eSATA and more at OtherWorldComputing.com

Best of luck.

I highly recommend that you get an eSATA express card. It's way faster than firewire 800 and disturbs the processor even less. It's even faster than the internal drive would be if it were a 7200 drive, as it is SATA 300 vs the internal SATA 150. It also frees up your fw bus completely. I use the Weibetech express esata card and external drive, although these days you have a lot more choices. It's really the best option you have.

I really like OWC stuff, but they didn't have anything out yet when I set mine up.
