My first gig!!!

OK!

After several months reading and LEARNING from you, I finally put together some equipement (Korg MR1000 + 2xGefell MV691+M93 omnis) and asked a nearby festival to "tape" (sound+video) their last concert.

The concert consisted in a portable organ, a trumpet and a soprano in a pretty big church. The soprano had a cold. I arrived during set-up and we agreed to put the three of them in a triangle in front of the altar, in a central position. I left and come back 30 minutes before the concert started. There was a worship before the concert, the church was full of people. When I came back the good old plans fell, the organ couldn't be moved (it's a portable one!) and the three got stuck in a corner. I also was videotaping the concert, so having them in a corner ruined the visual part and most of the audio, I think...

I learned SOOOOOOOOOO many things. Nobody cares what preamp you are using, you can't leave the place or things can change for worse and you have to be firm if you want to get a good setup. I am an acomodating kind of person, but I think I must take my "it must be done like I say" personality if I want to make good things happen!!!

Much respect for all of you who do this profesionally and with much better results!!!

Please critique me!!!!

Hey, GREAT job for your first time out. Particularly lovely is the capture of trumpet. I'm just listening on cheapos here at work, but the trumpet is so sweet sounding. Kudos!

The organ is a bit too close for my taste, and I'd center the soprano and have her closer. In fact, exchange the perspective on the organ and the soprano and I think you'd have a winner all the way around.

Did you record DSD 5.6? Love that Korg box...

You are too good with me... The trumpet is sweet because the player was great, he was using a "little" trumpet (piccolo?).

The problem is I can't relocate anything, should they have been as we had agreed, they would have ended with a nice CD and video. Playing in a corner (I will never understand why!) they ruined both video and sound...

I am happy with the quality I get. I got the mics used before the Korg, so I couldn't try them properly when I bought them. But I like them, during the checks I was pretty happy. If it sounds bad it's not their fault, is mine!!!

Yes, the trumpet player was great, but I was referring to your capture. Nice job there.

I know you can't move the performers after the fact ... my suggestion was just regarding a physical orientation in front of the mic array. I realize that was somewhat out of your control, but we all encounter that sooner or later...
