Question Live mixer under $25,000...

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a mixer under $25,000 for multiple applications.
Around 48ch is enough. Good pres. You know, something that you would spend $25,000 on. I'll be researching for a while so feel free to go into details.

Thanks

Question I have a few questions for you...

Okay so we know your budget is under $25,000.00 USD.
You would like around 48 channels and the pre got to be good, but...

What are the multiple applications?
Are you looking for a new or used desk? Analog or digital?
Do you what it in a roadcase or is it going into a mobile unit of some sort?
What have you been using now?

Give us a little more information so we can guide you in the right direction.

Soundcraft K2 has been one of the better boards in this priceleague (used ones go for really cheap).

yeah, more info please.

The desk that is on most riders: Being a Midas in your range that would be a used Heritage.
A Yamaha PM3000 or PM5000 is another 'most requested'.

Digital: That would be a Yamaha PM5D. Or Digico D5

You could however get a larger 56ch. Allen & Heath desk as that size desk is rare, so it could be (did I mention "could be") sensible to have a larger desk. Or a Soundcraft.

On the analog side (new), the Midas Verona. Used, you can look at Soundcraft Series 5, and Yamaha PM3500, or PM4000. I don't know if you could find an analog 48ch Midas XL series or Heritage at this price point though.

On the digital side, you could afford the Yamaha M7CL!

Muziek - If you find a Heritage 3000 for $25,000 let me know; I'll take two. Unless you need name recognition, I would not suggest the Verona. I, personally, don't like the EQ. The knobs feel flimsy and wear out over time (you can almost blow on them and they'll turn). No VCA's, unbalanced inserts, and just plain paying for a name. I really like Soundcraft's MH3. I use one almost every day to mix monitors on and it really does the job well. I've only used it a couple of times at FOH (I was happy to see one at a club in Buffalo where I was a few days ago), but it has never let me down. The soundco I often work for is trying to sell his 40 frame to buy another M7CL. I'm trying to talk him out of selling it and just buying another M7 if that's what he wants to do, but I'm not sure if that's an option. So if you can cut back to 40 channels then let me know. I'll be sad to see it go, but I would recommend them to anyone.

Oops sorry,
THe applications are as follows:

Location recording (this is where the pres really matter to me)
FOH mixer
Summing Box

I tend to lean more on analog for the convience of not having to press eight diffrent buttons just to do one thing. Although i just love recall.

Hopefully new.

Ive used everything from low-end yamaha and mackie all the way to midas and digico.

Is soundcraft the way to go? I mean im not the greatest "follow the crowd" guy out there...

The Digidesign Venue or even the Digico would be great for this, but both are way over your stated budget. You don't mention what recording system you have/have not, whatever you buy, you will have to figure out how you plan to interface it as this could be a major factor in your budget. At the price you are budgeting I would look for something with decent, poroprietry mic pre's, esoteric is going to put you way over.

Regards

I'm not sure I follow that logic, but YMMV.

On your original thought you stated you wanted to buy a $25000.00 console with good pres.

On the used analog console market I bet you could find this match at that price point.
I do not see this happening for a digital desk either or any new desk for that matter.

When you do the math, 25K USD works out to about $500.00 per channel and I only divided the input channel count of 48 in your cash money budget.

Why not look for individual quality mic pres for the recorder (and/or front end of the desk) and buy a decent quality FOH desk with plenty of options?
