Question Binaural Panning

That Binaural panning is crazy! Have any of you tried it with headphones on?

I'd assume it's some kind of localization thing, where you can place sound sources anywhere in a 360' arc around your head? Surround kind of effects I suppose. I don't actually know though.

In Logic8 if you go where you select output on your audio channel you can select Binaural for your panning , it is like a psychoacoustic panner and can pan in all directions, can pan mono or stereo sources in the stereo domain, crazy good for seperation and placing things outside the speakers realms, holds up great in the mono mix as well , another great addition in Logic8 ....

Wow, that's pretty sweet. No up and down though. I've heard binaural recordings on headphones where I could swear sounds were coming from above me.

i did an ableton Live mix with rewire and gave a copy to friends with the Bi set and they loved it in their earphones. Normally Binaaural mixes also have frequency differences and not just panning. Take etymotic earphones for Binaural you can't listen to normal mixes becaue they tend to sound to bright.

On a side note I am doing a review well I am moving to Berlin of the new Headphone amp that has their crossfeed circuit. It seems to do a decent job of imaging straight from normal mixes.

I have always been intrigued by binaural recordings. Do you know of any good ones? Have you used the head on your own records at all?

Lou Reed's Street Hassle and Psychic TV's Dreams Less Sweet both sound a little funky but the one that always blows me away is a binaural recording of David Tudor using a neural network synth. That's the record that freaked me out and made it seem like crazy sounds were coming from the apartment upstairs.

I have a matched pair of extremely flat omnis that I plan on putting in a binaural dummy head.

I haven't released anything that uses it yet. Am about too though..
The one I would love is the Neumann K100. EXPENSIVE though.

Oh, nice! I just RTFM. The actual binaural panner window isn't popping up for me when I switch a channel to binaural mode. Double clicking on the channel strip panner did the trick though. Very cool.

Well, people were making that happen long before Logic8. Up and down can be done.

Yes, I realize that which is why I was disappointed that Logic's binaural panner didn't have that capability. Except that it does actually have that capability, it's just in a dedicated plugin window that I didn't see. So now I'm not disappointed at all.
