Talking CADAC opinions Welcome !!

Hello gearslut members,

As i have been considering to invest for a Cadac A-type desk, i was curious to hear your thoughts on the matter. I have searched internet for references and only found about records that have been mixed with Cadac, that are not in my record shelve, such as pink floyd, duranduran, queen etc.. thought i do like some of their records... but not necessarily "my cup of tea" considering the sound style of those bands and era of recordings, maybe too british or something.. but anyways always i guess its on your hands & ears to make the sound, right!

guess Cadac is anyway good desk, though its old, with good components & pre-amps, eq´s .. or?

hope to hear from you!

Cadac is a first class mixer.

They are still in business. Focusing more on broadway type and classical recording.

Having used several Cadacs, including the A-type, I can tell you that they are great. The A has a great sound, but no automation (unless retofitted 3rd party). I know of several old theatre ones that have been sold off just for the pre amps.

I'd be curious to know what you're being asked to pay for one.

The reason you wont find much info/prices is that they are pretty rare desks - I'm talking about the 70's analogue consoles, not the current model.
The old consoles are absolutely awesome. My friend has one.
They aren't easy to maintain, and spares are a significant problem!!!!!
They rarely come up for sale (thru dealers or on ebay) and when they do they are expensive.
No one could give you a guide price unless they knew the specifications of the desk on offer. Because there are so few, I think there probably isn't one desk design, and therefore no standard value.
They are up there with Helios and Neve as far as quality and mojo is concerned.
Tread carefully with regards to maintenance costs and availability of spares however.

this is late eighties console.. 36track.. yeah, no info on net for this, even only lousy picture of the a-type.. and wonder why Cadac-sound.com dont even have it on their website?

I´m interested to hear opinions about how you think its working for recording/mixing in studio, since i guess theyve been specially made for theater musicals etc.. maybe theres no matter where you use it, though..

It might be OK, but a very different sound to the classic 70's Cadac.
I wouldn't pay too much for a late 80's console.

I have just recently purchased a Cadac A-Type 36x8 for my project studio. I have run into the same problem in trying to find info. It sounds great. Very quiet, pres really sparkle, and the eq's are awesome.

I'm sure that Mark at Cadac would be very interested in helping you out with any spare bits and PSU's. He has an entire web site prepared with the history of Cadac on it. Give him a call on +44 1582 404202 for any help you need.

I've uploaded a zip file of the site here, as I can't find it on-line:
