Creating width and depth for live guitar.

I have a nine piece band (www.burninglasvegas.com) and I frequently do shows without a keyboard player. Since the guitar is the only chord instrument I need it to be upfront yet in the pocket. I have found that mono gtr. can sometimes step on vocals. I don't want to carry another amp so I am thinking of sending a mic signal and a direct signal (via Palmer di "junction box") and pan the signals. I think this may give me more of what I am looking for. The only other this is should I delay one side slightly to give it a bit of depth. Any opinions and or different ideas welcomed.

I've heard that slightly delaying one of the sides by, say, 10ms sounds pretty freakin' cool.

If you want to get goofy with it, you might try miking your amp, go through your pre of choice, then into a true stereo delay, and mess with some stereo presets... You can do ping-pong stuff, uneven sides, the sky's the limit.

Good luck bro.
