Anyone doing it? 8 channel mobile recording with a 7.1 mic called a "Holophone"? Or how about 8 channels of phantom powered mic pres running on battery with digital audio tracking? I have a couple of systems such as the Mobile I/O I am testing for this with a MacBook but I'd love to not have to bring a laptop. Any suggestions? (one that doesn't cost $15,000 btw... I know some of the expensive field recorders that exist but WOW I don't get why it is so pricey... apart from desparate film staff who may have the budget and someone else writes the check). Thanks! |

Hi Dave, We considered doing it, however someone very sensible said: Record stereo and use IRs for spatiality. If you have an engine that does that (YT, GVI) you serve all. |

Dave, However, if you must. (This recorder is too nice not to show here.) http://www.aaton.com/products/sound/cantar/ And yes, it's 15K: http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_aaton_cantarx_field/ |

I like the realism of the true spacial positioning from all of the angles the mics picks up. I know I can simulate it and that'd be a lot easier/cheaper. But, since I have this mic I want to use it (another reason! also wasn't cheap). I know about my above $10K options... I don't want to spend that much. (who does?) But just curious what people are using for mobile 8 channel solutions... there must be some less expensive options. Although to also do high resolution audio is another story. Eh maybe I'll rent one of those machines. I don't know. I wish Roland made an 8 track version of the R4. That'd work I think.
