| Lives for gear | new snake and finally phat sound
well, if anyone remembers i was the one with the fiber optic system that was giving us problems ... we put in a new snake , copper this time, and the sound we all know and love is back ... so very hard for people (corporations that back venues) to listen to the guys running this gear ... they just want to be right in their own good time ... this is the first time we have heard the mic pres on the Audient console (fiber had pres in it and was sending signal to console line level), it is alright so far ... not an API but not a Mackie either , still sucks for grouping (no direct outs) as buss 1-8 feed tape and groups 1-8 so we cannot use them ... reall;y bites when you want to put up a good 2 mix and you cannot graoup for dynamics ... i will post more after shows thursday and friday ... oh yeah, had to wire up the mic inputs as the insatllers only wired line inputs for the fiber ... love that feeling of hot solder on your leg when soldering wearing shorts ... ya-hoo ... havt o interface PTHD system with DA machines next week too ... peace john |

John, I remember. Did you ever figure out why the fiber didn't work? I'm still an analog kind of guy when it comes to snakes and such. Glad to hear you persuaded the suites to go with a proven system. Now you're talking... Clean, clear sound using analog mic pres. What a novel idea. Tell us more when you get a chance.

| Lives for gear |
the fiber is in modules and they do not make them anymore and the guy that knows about them is no longer with the company ... another guy had some modules laying around the office that he was willing to bring down and swap out to try and relieve the swelling but we are getting rid of it instead ... it has always caused grounding issues with FOH and Monitor world ... yes grounding issues with fiber ... we have a few bugs to work out with the Audient console and the snake (a couple of buzzes that may still be a console issue ... ) but other than that it sure makes the mix come together faster with the copper ... Audient mic-pres are OK ... nothing spectactular but we can rent and use the Midas Xl-42's we have for more fun ... thanks for remembering ... hope to get some cool shows coming up ... peace john |
