Perhaps it is due partly to Ray Charles passing and winning so many grammy awards but....Did anyone notice that The Grammy Show this year seemed to recognize and feature blues and roots music much more this year than in years past?? I didn't watch the whole show and had to leave after seeing the Five Blind Boys with Mavis Staples but I was happy to see a blurb about Pine Top Perkins with Aerosmith's Steve Tyler prodding Pine Top to stand up and be recognized for his Lifetime Achievement Award...with actual footage of Pine Top!! Jerry Lee Lewis was recognised as well. I was also happy to see artists like Elvin Bishop, Dicky Betts, Mavis Staples and the Five Blind Boys performing on the show. In years past, roots music like blues, if recognized at all, would only recieve a quick mention that went by faster than movie credits, with no pictures or footage. Anyone else notice the "change"? Perhaps the Grammy producers are getting a little more wise about where American music comes from.

I think it was the best show overall in quite a while but I think they picked the wrong stuff to start out with and probably blew off a bunch of the potential audience who were trying to decide if it was worth watching.

I think this is also the first year of a new producer.

The most frustrating thing about working on the show is battling the Madison Avenue crowd to try and get better quality music on. It looked like the fight was successful this year but the drop in ratings could really hurt what happens next year.
