Blue Woodpecker (Ribbon) for Jazz Bone Session?

Hi, all...

I posted this in a thread that's getting buried, so pardon me for reposting!
(and I appreciate the 2 replies!)

I've got a jazz session coming up Wednesday...(piano trio and bone)

Picked up a Blue Woodpecker ribbon at GC yesterday...it is returnable.

Any thoughts on this mic for the trombonist/leader? It will be pre-amped with a PreSonus ADL600.

From what I have heard, the Blue Woodpecker is not as much of a departure from condensors as most ribbons are. It is supposed to be natural sounding with a little sparkle on top.

Based on Blue's track record with mics, and the amazing rep of the ADL600, I would say that bad technique is the only way to botch this recording.

huh, as a trombonist i'd be interested to hear it! i love ribbons on my horn, although sometimes darker ribbons are not my first pick, so something that has a little more "sparkle" would be interesting to hear.

i have a Woodpecker in for review and yes it has more highs then the traditional ribbon, but?
the highs are not at all edgy, very smooth and ribbon sounding.
eq's very very well.
lots of gain and i do mean lots!
i will most likely need to pad it if you are using a higher gain pre.
