| I'm liking and enjoying the forum as it is now. In general I find that it offers high quality advice and is less rude than the rest of GS. Hats off to Steve for moderating a great place to hang. |

Jules and I discussed this awhile back. At this point we do not feel it will be a plus, but thanks. In theory it's an awesome idea. When we do go "SUBCAT" I want to go full throttle. Break it all up -- Some of the TAGs could become SUBCATs. Quote:
Kudos to everyone that has made this the kind of forum everyone enjoys!

| I like this idea!! This forum comprises a huge international community and it would be great to make use of that as much as we can. Maybe something like a "Venues around the world" threat, were we can write a little bit about our experiences in various rooms, acoustic properties, set-ups that have worked well, problems that have been encountered, best bars in close proximity etc....If everybody interested writes a little report, it could become a very useful chapter in this ever evolving book! Best, Phil. Quote:

| Like it as it is! I like this forum as it is - very much. It took a little time until I discovered it on the server, there are others more "sparkling" on the first view, but since I know it, i like it most. A LOT of good ideas of a lot of wise people. And if I have a serious question, I know where to look or to ask :-) IMO the metaphor of the "high signal to noise ratio" says it all. Quote:
GS is IMO the best place in the internet, and the Remote Forum something like a home (or a truck... or a quiet corner to put my rig on... a well built listening room...) (Now it's said... )Quote:
And may be that some of us, may be especially of the classical guys, are more on the silent side. But: Quote:
Thanks for Your work! The 2 cents of a half-lurker.

| This forum is awesome already, even... Steve, I really enjoy this forum a great deal. It is the one that I always go to first. I enjoy a few other forums elsewhere (including within GS), but this forum seems to have a great S/N ratio compared to MANY other forums and while the rate of new posts here may not be high, the QUALITY of postings here is extreme, from my point of view. I don't feel like I have to sort through so-so advice here or wonder if some of the posters know what they're doing, etc.. Far from it!!! I do a lot of traditional music (blues/jazz/bluegrass) recording and only occasional classical or rock work....but even though classical and rock is not my favorite thing, I really enjoy reading about how people approach some of these other sessions. I have a small rig that I have to cart around in a car or van, so, a 48 or 64 channel recording session out of a large truck is a very different beast from what I normally do, but I really enjoy reading about those shows that you and some of the other heavy-duty mobile outfits record. It is *always* instructive. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is: THE GIG REPORTS ARE VERY VALUABLE! They are perhaps my favorite thing to read. Maybe *I* need to be better about sending positive re-inforcement and leaving more comments and questions on these gig reports...as I really really appreciate these posts. It is always great fun to see what kind of situations other folks are in the middle of and how they are handling different challenges. I know you and other folks put a lot of work into some of these gig reports, but they are really really informative and I always learn something new from each of them. All those gigs you've posted from the Blue Note or those jazz shows with DJ Logic, etc....Ben's posts from the Sydney Opera House, etc...those posts are awesome and I love reading them. As I said, perhaps you need more feedback and comments on those things. I can certainly imagine that it is dissapointing to put a lot of time/energy into a big post and then get only a few comments. I also hope that as I get better organized and can manage to take some photos of my own sessions, I can contribute some gig reports too. Most of the time I feel like I am running around with my hair on fire, so taking pictures takes a backseat!! Anyhow, bottom line: This forum is very valuable to me and I'm sure you could find a few ways to tweak it, but I am very happy with the content that is here now. As moderator, you should be sure and let all the forum denizens know what we can do to help make the forum better too... -dave |

| Steve, If I hang anywhere on GS, it's right here, and not just because I do mobile/classical recording gigs. The QUALITY of advice, the QUALITY of the posters, and the QUALITY of the expertise is why I'm here. I wish I could tell you just exactly how much I've learned in the short time I've been coming here, and that's from everyone - everyone. I might suggest a name change, but, no, it's fine the way it is, and I see your play on words! I love the gig reports, and I'd like to cite the Kimber posts and your posts as some of the best. I agree with the comments that there are few replies to those threads, because they are just so damn good and full of information. Pictures tell a thousand words - as in "Best of Flying Mics". You just don't see much of that kind of information elsewhere on GS, and I dare say, in few other places on the web. Minor tweaking is all I could suggest, but I can't even suggest what those tweaks could or should be. ![]() Strong work, Steve - and I thank you, and everyone else here. ![]()

| I would like to express my opinion that this remain dedicated to ACOUSTIC music. I find that I am becoming more and more agitated anytime I hear or see and amplifier in the room. [soapbox mode] I wish people would listen more. Instead, we put a mic on a piano in a TRIO situation! Basic musicianship tells me that if you cannot hear the piano then you need to be quieter and listen more carefully. And it is a true joy when I find a group (outside the classical arena) that understands this - it is auditory heaven and my job to capture it in it's pristine glory. [soapbox mode off] |

| Gear Head | I'm not sure if this would be the forum to post this, but I think it may be most relevant. I would be interested in a forum on Live Sound Reinforcement. I have plenty of questions that would pertain more to this area, as opposed to studio scenarios. Nonetheless, this is still a very helpful tool. Thanks for the insight!! Respect. -Nick.

Acoustic Music&Remote Possibilities & Location Recording It would have much more sense and logic ... Otherwise all the contributions about recordings which are not remote or location would be simply out of place. And I am also afraid that many people attending other forums simply donīt come to see this forum because they donīt know it deals also with acoustic music as such (not clearly indicated in the name). If not interested in "remote" or "location", they could easily miss it ... (which normally happens)
