The best microphone

Let's say you are only allowed to own two microphones.
You can only record with those two mics.

They can be the same type or two different ones. Of course you are supposed to do everything - orchestral recordings, drums, guitars, vox etc.

Budget is not an issue.
You have most preamps at your disposal.

Which mic is in your bag?

This questions is, obviously, purely hypothetical.

I definitely wouldn't go with SM57s if I only had 2 mics to pick from ever. SM57s are great (I have 7....I think) but if you go with those, you can't do much more than guitar cabs, drums, some vox, etc. What if an orchestra comes to record at "Imaginary Studios?"

The U47s and 67s are good though!

one of my favorites was the M269.
the SM57 is always underrated, i think because it is affordable maybe.
having said that i would go for the RE-15 or the RE-16 as i just love the way they sound.

i do not like the what is the best mic game as it is easy to say the this or the that.
as well, many times cheap mics, ( and i do not mean affordable mics ) are lumped in as one of the mics that is given that old well you can use it somewhere titles and for me that spells door stop.

although i have a love for vintage gear rather it be a mic or what ever i contend good mics are still being made today.
look at BLUE, ( i like their mics) as well many others, or some of the small boutique companies.

so what are you looking for?
