Got a gig coming up where I need an extra 15-20 DPA 4061 mics and hopefully some of the MSS6000 combiners (trying to avoid a 2nd mixer for strings alone). This is for a string section on a live event so I'll also need string mounts, etc... I found one person in LA that has some, but not all that I'll need. Does anybody else cary these wonderful little mics? --Ben |

Call John Petrafesa at PRG Audio; 914-662-3540. I got 30 from him for an orchestra some months ago. Tell him Jim van Bergen sent ya. |

You can make a string mount from rubber bands and one hook. Tape the mic to the hook and hook it on the top of the tailpiece. Join as many rubber bands as you need together. Run the rubber band under the bottom of the tailpiece. Works well for bass and cello. You probably have a better solution, but I thought I would share. |

If all else fails, call DPA directly.

I thought of that... I don't really know if they are in the business of renting their mics... I have Bruce's contact info though and may give him a ring. Jim- Thanks for the contact info. PRG has an office here in LA so they may work. I couldn't call today due to a client editing session that ran long so I'll call them on Tuesday when things re-open. --Ben | |

The dpa mounts are indeed very nice, but I have found they can sometimes be hard to find in large numbers and one has to improvise. Ben, can you explain the velcro solution? |

DPA mounts: With a fitting piece of rubber and a sharp cutter You can copy them. I did it when I needed some more for the next day, and my dealer had none in stock. Took some time, and the first was for the garbage, but than it worked :-) So if You have a skilled trainee or something like... Don't know whether those rubber pads are difficult to find. We have a small store in town specialized on rubber, so it was no problem. |

Thread Starter | Sure- We have used 2 pieces of Velcoro- one has a small loop in it (similar to the stuff like you'd see on a cable tie- usually on the fuzzy side) and the loops are attached at one side. The velcro attaches to the strings between the bridge and tailpiece. Usually, we place the mic right on top of the strings. It isn't a really tight attachment usually, but it does hold. The loop in the velcro allows for positioning the microphone as needed. Wish I had a photo, but unfortunately I don't... --Ben |
