Here's a couple of pictures showing you the reverse situation...

I needed to install a Speck matrix mixer below the patch bay in Jethro, but the teak rack was not deep enough to house the mixer and the connector harness.

I came up with the (10/30 screw bolt) extension idea.
It has been in operation for decades.
