Shore power is not always available at every location we're at... We need to tie into power from a generator. Sometimes they're small units for just the audio truck; sometimes they're medium sized for a couple of trucks and such. ...And, sometimes they're huge, handling everything plus the hair dryer and coffee machine. Here's a few shots of the Kohler Power trailer we had during most of the CBS Summer in the City tour 2007. What a monster this sucker was -- Dual genies that when both are operated can give you continous power even when one generator fails. Awesome!!

I just opened the door to the generator room -- Look at these puppies!! Plenty of outputs nabd breakers available. This unit was pretty quiet considering two huge generators were running during the live teleproduction. We only ran one genie on the set-up days -- Got to save on fuel costs. |

I gotta say, one of my favourite things about working in live and location is tying into big power. I love big breakers like those that you have to actually charge to throw. Biggest one I ever tied into was a 3ΓΈ 600V 1200A Agrekko... Big, sexy and orange. I love big power :-)

I totally hear you on that front. I love working and building stuff like this... On a smaller scale when referenced to "Big" power, but... |
