So my family has a remote cabin in the woods that has pretty appealing acoustics, and has that nice vibe that i think would be great for doing some recording at (Mostly acoustic guitars, drums, and maybe some vox). The only problem is this place is a true camping cabin, so theres no power at all. My rig is pretty portable, ive got a laptop i can run pro tools on, and a digi 002 with a Digimax FS and a couple of those cheesey blue tube pres, so thats all i need to power at the moment. I dont want to run a generator, because the noise would end up being too much, so i was curious if there was an all battery solution out there that could give me 12 or so hours of recording time, possibly something like an inverter and car batterys. I dunno if this has been discussed somewhere else (if so, please foreward me to the right thread) but i think it would be a really cool setup if it could be done.

I have this to use, but I'm sure you could get by with a small battery array and a UPS combo. Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES) The Honda EU generators are a great back-up power supply as well. |

I'd say get a really good UPS and a generator. My friend can run his entire mobile truck for half an hour with his UPS. For the small amount of electronics you have, you could probably get a lot of time out of a UPS and then use the generator to recharge it after recording. Could always go for solar panels.

I do some remote recordings as well. I ended up using a Shure FP-33 field ENG mixer with a Marantz PDM 670. Just take several flash cards along. Then I transfer the PCM files to my home system for processing. Maybe not what your looking for but just an idea.

A simple small solution could be to use an "inverter" and some car batteries. Some people are powering their guitar amps that way, making music outdoors. The inverter converts 12 volts, DC battery power to 120 volts, AC power and there are models with a couple of plug receptacles on it. (The one on the pic is very simple and has only one). The inverters offer different capacity, You have to calculate how much is needed. I guess with two batteries You could have enough power for a few hours of recording. But may be Your tube amps are consuming more... There are inverters available with an inbuild recharger so that You can recharge at home. |
