jbl eon/mackie c300 or other ideas for monitors?

I bought some used jbl eon 1500's for monitors and occasional dj use. They're fine for the dj thing but seem prone to feedback and are a little trebly for use as a monitor.
Would the mackie c300's be better for this sort of thing?
I like the dual use nature of these type of wedge speakers, but any ideas on a wedge that will do both jobs better?
thanks
daniel

I guess I should have stated this more clearly? These monitors will be used for playing out in a live situation, not for studio.
Don't any of you guys use stage monitors that also double for use as p.a. in a pinch?
thanks
daniel

I've used the sMackie SR450 as monitors and/or PA speakers on sticks. They're not too bad. Not a lot of throw but workable.

Keep in mind you don't want to overdrive your speakers. Don't push their limits and you'll keep the feedback to a minimum. Consider buying a 1/3 octave graphic EQ for your system so you can notch out the ugly frequencies that feedback. You can also tweak your monitors so they don't sound too thin.

I hope this helped.

Steve thanks! Maybe I will try bringing our eq instead of buying new montiors. Most of the time I set the stuff up by myself as the other 2 players can't seem to show up in time to set up
so I keep things minimal. I've used the eons out front and for monitors and to me they seem kind of thin, but all I've had to compare them to are some ancient homemade ev's.
Thanks again
daniel
