Doesn't the crowd complain when you record a live concert?

i will try and get a short clip up later. it would only be the 2ch pcm recording. it sounds great but to really experince it you must hear it in surround!

________________________________________________________________

yes mike there were lots of "chicks" in bikinis but unfortunatly the 20 yard rule definatly applied for 99 percent of them.

________________________________________________________________

Mrsteaks,

come on its only 8 feet tall....

________________________________________________________________

Huub,

thats why the band came in a day early, no audience was present. (thank God to, no annoying sounds like crinkling paper, hearing aids that feedback or shouting matches, yes we actualy had two people almost go to blows at a wind ensemble concert. for the other concerts we record the seat with ubstructed views are blocked off. no complaints so far.

Actually, there were at least 2 pretty bikini chicks - one on the podium, one sitting below - and a few more in the band, it seems

How did the Windpacs do? Have you ever compared them to standard Rycote stuff?

Wow. What did you name the jecklin disk? It works in multiple planes, so should it be called something else? It's HUGE!

Chicks in bikinis are nice to look at...but did they SOUND good?

I think it's kind of common place these days for summer outdoor marching band/drum corps practice/rehearsal/recording - none of my band directors looked like that! We also had to some times stifle in full wool uniform - many were completely bare underneath, though to try and stand the heat...

- nice mic thing, too...

See what I started. One mention of chicks in bikini's and now we are all like a bunch of guys in a strip club. "Screw the mics and the sound lets go get some girls"

Back on topic, The set up looks great, but man if I have to bring a lift to my session its just to damn much work. I will keep my fat ass in the studio thank you!!!!

Lazy but allegedly talented,

jesus theres nearly a quarter million dollar recording rig setup and all you guys want to talk about is girls in bikinis

mike,

let me see if i can find a pic of what we tried last year... think giant erector set... the boom lift was so much easier.

Jim,
yeah its basicily a jecklin disc that works front to back as well as side to side. we call it the IsoMike ... i had nothing to do with name by the way i just make the recordings. heres a web site with info about some of the projects we have done as well as a more detailed list of the gear we use.

www.isomike.com

and yes the chicks sounded good.

aux9098i,

see above.

pkautzsch,

the windpacs are amazing. best windscreen i have ever used. it was a bit breazy later in the afternoon and you could barely hear a thing.

somebad news on the request for a sample... at the moment we are working on getting rights to relaease a sample sacd with the recordings on it. until then i cant post any examples so you will just have to wait until the sampler sacd is released or if you are going to CES in January you can come here it played back directly off the "masters" in our demo room. its really worth it to hear it in surround anyways i promise.

Are you involved in the making of the IsoMike?

Are they a rental item?

Or can you buy them?

How did you arrive at the shape of that thing? It's almost art-deco, very interesting shape. What materials are used in it?

You know you're getting old when you notice there are chicks in bikinis in the pictures with the gear but you'd rather look at the gear !!!

i did not build this baffle, it was built by ray kimber. unfortunatly they are not for sale and this is the only one that is this large. and we do not rent it. my involvment with the isomike has been as a recording engineer. we have been lucky enough to convence people to come to us. as a matter of fact in october the principle from the acadamy of st martins in the field our flying over from england to work with us on an album.

Mrsteaks,

the shape was almost chosen at random being that the original principle behind it calls for a symetrical shape. as far as what its made out of i am not sure that i could say as its not mine and i am not sure if ray would want me to say. hovever i will tell you that it dose involve a vary particular form of fibergalass and other elements to make an extremely obsorbitive wall even into the lower frequency ranges.

It looks quite heavy! I explored the IsoMike website and looked at the development photos. Damned interesting! The rigging to fly the different configurations was very complex. Must have taken some time to set up. Something that big must be at least a little intimidating! I noticed a lot of different mic arrays, too. All in all, very fascinating, and thanks for sharing it with us!

it actually ways just under 200lbs. the system can be setup in the concert hall in under an hour however it did take a bit longer as this was a new way of doing it we felt it would be best to take it slow just to make sure things went just right. we started setup just after 9am and had everything in place and working by 1230 including the playback system.
