Question Good active nearfields for classical <$500/pr?

Looking for feedback/experiences/recommendations anyone might have re cheap active nearfield monitors. These would be used for post (driven by DAC1-USB) but might occasionally make it out on location (I usually monitor thru cans).

Strictly a classical operation here, hence posting in this forum. Thanks...

Try looking on ebay for Tannoy 800A (which I use on location)-- once I put mine atop my B&W 801 Matrix III and they were pretty close above 100Hz.

Rich is correct...

The used market is your only alternative.

used BM5A, used Genelecs, and Tannoys are great choices. In the sub 500 market, you might want to look to Auratones, but you can forget accuracy wth them. Is this for broadcast?

Actives

Hey, Mike -

Current FeeBay:

KRK RP8 RP 8 PAIR ACTIVE STUDIO MONITORS NEW - (item 200132159319 end time Aug-01-07 12:39:58 PDT)

KRK RP-5 ACTIVE STUDIO MONITORS PAIR NEW IN BOX! RP 5 - (item 270149682783 end time Aug-04-07 19:12:25 PDT)

I've heard the KRK's, they're pretty nuetral. Anything else decent seems to be over $800 - that's B&W (not active), Tannoy, Genelec, etc.

Just my 2 pennies!

How are you, btw?

Might I suggest the NHT M00? Right at your price limit new, compact and rugged enough to readily take on location (though somewhat heavy).

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd be interested in any more comments on KRK stuff. I've heard them mentioned in the same breath as Dynaudio before. I'd like a pr of 8020s but am looking at viable lower priced options.

Also, is Event worth a look?

I have the Event TR6's.

For the price they are pretty good.
