for all of you "stereo pair" fans....

OK, we've got our favorite stereo pair of microphones wired up to a very nice stereo mic preamp and jacked right into our choice of 2 track portable recorder. So far, so good. But for this particular gig, you determine that you just can't get away without adding one or two spot mics. Not a problem as you just happen to have 2 or 3 more great mics with you "just in case" and another pair of good mic preamps. But what the hell do you do when your brain finally realizes that you are recording directly to 2 track and you now have 3 (or 4) inputs?

(for the sake of this thread, lets assume that Mackies are banned from the venue AND that you really want to use the preamps that you brought with you, not the preamps in some other mixer)

Please help me before I try to drag an Ampex 2" machine along on location gigs)

Why not grab either an API 3214+ (Assuming that it will do line level) the ATI 8x2 mixer (assuming the same thing), or before everyone else says it, a Cranesong Spider? Oh, and Manley has a minimalist mixer as well.

While you're at it, why not use the pre's in the freakin' thing?

The Api rocks, ATI also makes a cool little 8 ch mic pre+line mixer..

Oh, and you def have the wrong moderator to talk you out of bringing a Studer to a gig :)

Good Luck!
