I've been asked to rack up a flypack for a 4 day jazz gig in Dubai, (United Arab Emirates). I was thinking about the mx 2424 Plus 24 channels of focusrite platnum pre. light and easy. Anybody have any experience working in UAE?

I'm only slightly aware of the Platinum model range; they have a single space 8ch mic pre, right? There are many other 8ch mic preamps, but their pricing is often way behind the Platinum model level.

I'm debating on what pres to take. It's gotta be simple, and the mx2424 only has digital i/o, so these pres are my only in house choice. The largest venue (a university) wants to charge 6K!!!!!! for a PA for the night. sounds like robbery to me. Many details to work out.

They're probably flying it from greece. I've done some mighty fine recordings with less. More than anything else you'll have to double mic. everything or bring splitters and get the sound companies to agree to give you the direct feed or even to use them at all. Mostly these guys just want to get their job done as fast as possible with the least chance that somebody suspects that they don't know shit from shinola and they try to hit on the local babes.. try to stay as much out of the way as possible, if they want to know something let them come to you, set your stuff up before they get there and say I'm with the band you can hook up here. ISOLATION? These are always my problems when doing remote. A UPS and IsoTxfmr, Dubai = down converter? And what other backup can you take? 24 ch. DistroAmpli? 2x MX24? I've done some splendid studio recordings on Behringer equipment (really) I get paid to listen and move mics and not squash a vibe (basic studio training) so I wouldn't worry about those pres., you might have to take some star mics. a couple of ribbons, dynamics and LD SD etc.. (star instruments, overheads) It should be a lot of fun if it goes good.
