Question Hand Cart with elevating toe plate???

I developed a major problem with my back. Can't lift my SKBs from the ground to my Yukon anymore.

I've got a generic hand truck to go from Yukon to where ever. But I need something to lift boxes from ground up.

Anybody now of any hand trucks that have a raisable toe plate? The hand truck doesn't need to be anything heavier than a luggage hand truck but the ability to move the toe plate up and down to the level of the back of GMC Yukon - about 3 feet or so.

Thanks,

Woods

Back trouble sucks!

Have you thought about using a removable ramp between the ground and the bumper along with an electric winch? I saw a sewer rooter truck rigged like that once, and it got me thinking about using a similar setup to load heavy gear racks.

that would work. But - I only move a couple boxes at a time for most gigs and that might be overkill for me.

I have been Googling for "Hand Truck elevating toe plate" and etc. I can'r believe there isn't anything available like that. You would think it would be common as anything.

Thanks for your reply. But still looking for an elevating toe plate

Look in the automotive industry...

They have cart style devices that elevate tranies and such.
A flat plate cart that can elevate is not out of the question in that industry.

There are a few companies that build carts (and such) for the industrial, cargo and shipping worlds.
We have a Westco Ped-A-Lift" that can handle 750 pounds that does exactly what you're looking for.
I'm sure someone manufactures a lighter unit for your needs.

Here are some leads; they are mostly heavy duty products, but the links may serve as a starting point for you...

Westco

Direct Industry

ECOA

I didn't look in the automotive industries, but I'll let you investigate that catagory.

I hope this helps!

I've been brainstrming the afternoon away.

Came up with a possible idea. I am looking at a Millwaukee 250lb standard hand truck. It's 42inches high at the top of the handle. I could possibly make this scenario work:

I make a simple sling - A section of rope or wire with a hook at both ends - this would then hook under both handles of the SKB case. The sling would fit snuggly around the contour of the SKB case from the handles up around the top of the case.

Next I fasten a cheap plastic pully to the top of the hand truck handle in the very centre of the handle at the top. Then I rig another rope with a small hook on one end and a loop for my foot to go thru on the other.

Then with the hand truck standing upright with the SKB resting on the toe plate. I then steady the hand cart by its handles. And put my foot in the loop and push down with my weight - that should raise the SKB up high enough for me to push into the Yukon.

Sounds good on paper

A very cool and novel idea (and one I've thought about myself - although my idea was more along the lines of a pulley/winch inside my XTerra).

This is the only part I'd definitely change though. Might be worth investing in something more sturdy than a cheap plastic pulley. You wouldn't want it to snap off and send your case plummeting back down!

Might be worth finding a friend with a blowtorch for a six pack or something (save the six pack for afterwards though)
