hi, a friend of mine is getting a local tv music show together and asked me to mix it and record it. I have no problem with the idea of mixing a live recording since I mix records, but I really don't want to take my studio gear out to record a show. anybody in the charlottsville virginia area? I know the point of of location recording companies is that they travel...but not sure if they have the budget. also, not sure of what this would cost either ---- if anyone wants to chime in. it will be recorded at a live music venue...mostly acoustic music, bluegrass maybe a little more rocking than that at times. thanks in advance. |

Too bad you're not a little closer to us - this kind of stuff is right up our alley! We do travel occasionally, but our bread and butter is really in the mid-south. As for cost, I would think it would be pretty minimal. It sounds like you just need someone to come in and multitrack the performances, and then you'll mix them later? This is what we do MOST of the time. If we don't have to provide a mix on site, or do the mixing in post then we typically cut a good bit out of our rates. Not sure if all the remote businesses do the same thing, but I imagine they would? The less gear and hassle we have to deal with, the less we will charge. Just seems right to me. I would guess you could find someone local for a couple hundred dollars a night; maybe even less. I grew up in the state and my sister is a UVA grad so I spent a good bit of time there! C'ville is a great town - I seem to recall it had a pretty decent music scene so you shouldn't have much trouble finding someone with good gear to help you out. Good luck and please keep us all posted as it progresses! Nothing better than a weekly/monthly serial on something like this. You know you're bound to end up with some good stories! Dirk
