So my question is , if I take an aux send from a board Its no good going into my pre amps? this explains allot , I recorded a wedding I took 2 AUX sends from the board and used my binaural Mic that I made put it on two other channels needless to say the the aux sends sounded like crap and my Mic sounded supper great , now I'm learning why it sounded so great , its because the aux sends are line level and running line into a Mic amp is no good. is this correct about the aux sends? thanks </TD></TR><TR UNSELECTABLE="on" hb_tag="1"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 1pt" height=1 UNSELECTABLE="on"> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Ifyou must use an aux send, you can alway pad down the input to your mic pre... Let's say about 40dB. That should work just fine!

thanks again nathan and steve, is a pad just a resistor or is more complicated? would you know the rate to voltage cut per db per volt? also I'm thinking I can run a AUX from a board into a In, Insert. is this correct? they are both at line level. or would I need to use the in and out of the insert to work? thanks guys. |

actually i'm not sure what you mean by that, are you talking about bringing in an fx return on another fader and bringing it in through the insert jack instead of the line in?

There's a formula for figuring out H pad resistance... I'm going to look for it. If I find it soon enough I will post it for you. Q: Why do you want to plug into the insert instead of a line input? |

Nice link Thomas. I found the Attenuator Calculator my buddy designed, but I cannot upload it onto GS because it doesn't except Excel files. The file includes T type; O type; H type; Pi type; L type and U type attenuator calculators... A very nice tools to have! If anyone's interested, email or PM me your email address and I shall forward you the XLS file. |

Turn that picture around 180 degrees and you will see where to plug things in. I'll give you a hint: It's a "combo" of things you're missing.

I guess what I am trying to ask . insert in is at line level and so is an AUX send from a board correct me if I am wrong. we have already established running an AUX to a Pre is no good and could even be fatal to an amp. so with out taking a split , I can run two channels of AUX to my inserts in a pinch? too record |

Your interface has combo jacks on the front. Plug your line level signal into the 1/4 jacks on the front. Those are line level, it's only mic level if you use an XLR.

We also established, when applicable you can pad the mic input by about 40 dB and it will work just fine for you.

yeah, i think the firestudio will do line level inputs... you could go into an insert, i suppose... but you'd probably want to make up some custom cables for that, and i still don't think that'd be ideal. |

![]() I always thought those ins where for guitars and basses. the voltage of a guitar is much lower than a mic line and a mic line is not even close to a line level? A DI brings it to a mic level.

| The first two are instrument inputs and the other six are line inputs. They are clearly marked on the front panel of the unit. I'm also assuming that this is explained in the manual.
