Thread Starter | new Lincoln Center complex
Has everybody seen the new issue of Pro Sound News with the article on the new jazz performance complex at Lincoln Center? There are three performance spaces, 140, 500 and 1000+ seats, each tied back to a large recording studio complex. The recording studio complex has been designed and constructed and they are now soliciting bids for someone to come in and equip/wire and operate the recording studios. Imagine the job of spec'ing out the gear and purchasing it all......what a cool gig! The big controversy for us remote guys concerns the direction they take with regard to their "philosophy" of recording. Will they set things up as traditional performance spaces that just happen to have a very convenient set up for location recording? Or will they consider the three spaces to be the "live" rooms in their recording studio? I guess I'm being overly concerned that will all that money and unlimited access that every performance will be recorded to 96 tracks with 18 mics on a small jazz drum kit. I'm having a hard time visualizing a situation where all that recording horsepower is so readily available, yet the producer chooses to go with just a well place stereo pair of mics. I guess will have to wait and see who gets selected to outfit and operate the studios and then wait until the Mix mag cover shot shows us the million dollar control room. Are they going to fairly evaluate suitable alternatives, or is a massive Pro Tools network already a done deal?

| Check this out Like my buddy said to me the other day... Check this out. Huge files. Huge, complex rfp. Anyone have a million dollars to equip and then lose money? How can this be financially viable? Someone with DEEP pockets will do this as a showcase and toy.
