Talking Anyone running a Win DAW app in XP on a macBook Pro?

I currently have 2 systems-- a custom Windows box running Sequoia for big gigs and a ti book with a Metric Halo (and Broadhurst Gardens #8) for 8 channels and below. The files are later imported into Sequoia for edinting etc.

I have been thinking about the time and back muscle savings by chucking it all for a loaded MacBook Pro with XP and Sequoia on the Win side.

Anyone using a MBP and a Win DAW app?

Rich

Pyramix on MacBook

Two weeks ago I picked up a MacBook and loaded WinXP Home Edition, updated everything via the Microsoft site and then loaded Pyramix Native. So far everything is going great except I don't record on this rig but use it to mixdown / edit files from the 744 mostly.

I have also been running the AudioGate software from Korg on both the Mac and PC side without any issues.

I too am using Pyramix Native on a MacBook Pro under Boot Camp - not Parallels. Seems to run fine.

Up till now my kit was Mac Metric Halo 2882 as well. The limitation with the MH Console and BWav files is the main reason I made the change - not any problems with the 2882. I still use a ULN2 for small jobs.

Using an app like Mac Drive enables me to move data files between partitions.

Best regards

Thanks for the tip on MacDrive--

FWIW the lastest console beta will label take folders with sequential numbers rather than a time stamp. BJ promises that soon ALL the takes for ch1 will be together (and other channels in the same manner). This will eliminate MANY mouse clicks when importing.

Would that answer your needs for MH?

Larry,

I believe that this is 2-ch only at present-- I have emailed for clarufucation. Are you doing this in PMX Native in multi-channel?

I think you might be correct - I spent a little time today looking at it, but could only see two channels. I was not sure if I had things set up properly.

Just got home from recording a choir and orchestra ULN2 and 2882 into MH Record panel. So easy and so good :)

Best

Not sure about Parallels, but I regularly run Samplitude 9 on a MacBook (2 GHz Core2, 2 GB RAM) under BootCamp. It actually runs better on this machine than on my desktop Windows box (2 GHz Athlon64).

Hey Larry,

I am curently considering a set-up with Pyramix Native - Mac Book Pro - Metric Halo 2882. Are you still using this set-up.....I seem to recall that you were looking for a different interface?!

What other ways would you or others suggest for using the Native Pyramix software!

Thanks a lot,

Phil.

Hi Phil - The answer is Yes and No!

I am still using Pyramix native - MacBookPro - MH2882 combination, but not together.

For concert recordings I use the MH2882 and the Record panel in the MH Software. This is by far the most reliable location system I have come across. Then I import the files into Pyramix for editing mixing etc.

I do also have an RME FF400 which I use on occasions to record direct into Pyramix.

All in all the best of both worlds

Best wishes
Larry

No problems here with Macbook Pro (Bootcamp, WinXP SP2), Pyramix 5.1, and a Lynx Aurora. I've recorded up to 8 channels wide at 24/96 with this system and, once upgraded to Pyramix v.6, will try 16.

I typically record to an eSATA drive (connected via an ExpressCard eSATA interface) and have found that it works perfectly even when formatted HFS+ using MacDrive. No problems yet with this system. I always run a backup (or two) but have yet to use it.

Thanks a lot for the replies.....encouraging news!!

Larry, I don't no much about the MH record panel and software. As an active user, what do you think are the pros and cons of the system? Any limitations you feel are bugging you?

Thank you.

The MH Record panel is a simple record system - think of it as a multitrack recorder. You arm the tracks and push record. It record in various formats - I mostly use wav. It puts a very low load on the machine - unlike any DAW software.

I guess the only con for me is that it is a mac system only so I have to reboot and load the files into PMX for editing however this is rarely a problem for me as I am normally recording live concerts. If I were doing traditional sessions I think it would be problematic. Eg you cant do overdubs with the record panel.

I have tried various other interfaces but the layout and functions on the Metric Halo stuff is the easiest for me to use.

Hope this helps
