Question Portable recording

I am looking for something portable that I can carry around and record everyday sounds with high quality. I was looking at the M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96. Does anyone know anything about this? Would I need an external microphone to go with it, and if so whats a good one? Also would it need a preamp?

Here you go if you haven't found this already: M-AUDIO - MicroTrack II - Professional 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder . It comes with a stereo T kind of microphone that plugs into the recorder via eighth inch input. It also has TRS inputs etc. And yes you can adapt XLR to quarter inch TRS if you want to use regular mics wired XLR. Phantom power works on most microphones, but it is not a full fourty eight volts.

No one else responded recently because the question is about 18 months old - hardly worth resurrecting now, I would have thought.

Yes, but keep in mind that Gearslutz (or at least this forum) is an open book.
Unless the thread is locked anything can be rehashed.
