I have been searching around and haven't been able to find a bar designed specifically for mid/side. I need one that can use a SDC for the mid, and a large tube LDC or ribbon for side. Anyone have one they just can't live without? |

I've got a few clip on mic stand extenders... they screw on an existing stand and have a mount for a clip on them. I've actually got three of them and can pull off MS and blumlein from one stand!!!! ![]() 6th picture in: http://www.swampsongs.com/Site/Photos.html K&M makes them as well as Apex and maybe others... |

The Schoeps bar is very versatile but only uses clips for the Schoeps mic | |

Here's a pic of how I set up an MS pair two weeks ago. It's basically a tilted "standard stereo bar". You need to get your mind off the standard "one mic on top of the other, and both on top of a bar" way of thinking. The clip-on gooseneck extension thing is great, though goosenecks sometimes have a live of their own and start to bend right in the middle of recording.

Thanks for the responses and ideas. I have a standard Atlas stereo bar, distance between the threaded mounts is not adjustable so it's not very flexible. The SDC being front address and the side mic being side address doesn’t simplify the problem. In the past I have always used two stands… but it is a pain to make adjustments and to boom it out far. So recently I purchased the Atlas 36b studio boom, an amazingly well built and very useful tool, so now I need a great set-up for m/s. So I think the winner is the K&M 240/5 mic holder attachment that Matt recommended, thanks for the tip! thumbsup Anyone else have any recommendations? |
