Panning for piano/clarinet duo?

i have tracked some material for a piano and clarinet duo. in the past, i have mixed usch material by spreading the piano across the stage and placed the soloist inthe middle. this time, i am thinking of panning the piano somewhat to the R, and placing the clarinet just to the left of middle to create a more realistic presentation.

also, the original tracks are quite dry. in the past, i have opted for a fairly large hall reverb, sometimes adding in some small room and short echo, to emulate a concert type reproduction. this time i am considering a more chamber type verb, but it seems like it is harder to get the two instruments to sound like they are in the same space if i use smaller verbs.

so, i would like your thoughts on both the panning and reverbs issues with this type of recording. thanks for any suggestions.

Just a quick response... Go for a realistic stage presentation. Let your mind's eye place the soloist standing (or sitting) near the curve in the grand piano's soundboard. Put a dark hall, sparingly, on the soloist, use the natural piano reverb (did you use room mics? - blend them in if you did) and place the piano a bit left of center with a narrowed stereo field. Run a nice plate or light hall over the whole mix. Just a place to start - hope this helps.
