Has anyone ever seen or used a battery powered tube preamp for field recordings. Thanks Phil

No - but i've heard of them. Apparantly old vintage hearing aids used battery powered tubes. The beauty of battery powered preamps is that they don't have any AC hum problems. They might still have noise, and possible voltage sag/headroom issues - but I would certainly be interested in trying one if they were available. As long as I could find a supply of replacement tubes ... I've sometimes wondered about building a tube preamp (or tube guitar amps for that matter) with conventional tubes, but using stacks of batteries to produce the high voltages needed. Largely because I hate hum but love tubey goodness ...
