Talking Live: Own monitoring Submix for drums

Hi all,
just wanted to have some feedback from all of y GS if anyone is doing live an own monitoring mix for the drums.

Have an MIXWIZARD 16:2 + Palmer Mic splitters in my rack and doing my own monitoring for my In ear, and now via the splitters still can provide original mic signal to FOH.

So far I just used this sys in my studio (during practice session& recording of course) via Pro tools and got somehow frustrated during live situations not to have the sound I'm used too. As accoustically I have exactly the sound I would like to hear (gretsch drums vc sig set) - in my studio have all miced up for practice/recording via PRE's and fully satisfied with the sound (via Shure IE5).

Does anyone of y doing the same or similar?

groovy greetings
Serge

Perhaps better late than never can apply here…

I moved your thread to this forum for a little delay action.

Serge,

A lot of drummers do this (or some variation with an IEM mix) these days. A bunch of drummers also take the option to have a wired IEM mix go to a small mixer along with click and whatever track is played, to be able to coordinate the various signals they are dealing with.

You want control, that's the best way to get it.

What are you not getting from the FOH mix? Does your mixer know what you want in terms of depth, color, and blend? I'm really curious as to how you know whats wrong with the house mix, unless you have a drum tech play the kit and you walk around the venue...because what you hear at the drum kit is NOT what they hear in front of the stage.

Cheers-

JvB
