Wink Orchestral Mixing - consoles, tricks, suggestions?

What are your suggestions for MIXING a large symphony orchestra in stereo?

Equipment: consoles (SSL, Neve), reverb (Lex, TC E.), etc?

Any favorite techniques?

Tip #1. Know what an orchestra actually sounds like. Live. When you're on the stand or sitting in front of one. Amazing at how many people think they do but don't have a clue. Also, know where the different instrument groups are placed in the stereo field.

Don't try that at home.

It would take 2 years to describe what you need to know.

Better to hire someone like me and tag along.

No exotic equipment is required. However, you have to have the mics in the right places
and you have to have a recording system capable of high dynamic range.
