Before I had SPL GoldMike . Then I got DACS and was quite impressed. But slowly I somehow was less and less happy with the sound. It sounded somehow too hollow so to say, maybe too impersonal or how to find the proper term, too organically grown somehow. When I got Millennia later, I found it sounding much more decent and musical ... Anyway, some time ago mr. OVU gave very interesting description of DACS. I cannot do it better than he did:

Not to say that it sounds bright or hyped - that's not the impression it creates, it's more subtle than that. Maybe just that it was perhaps forgetting about the music in the persuit of paper technical perfection. I dunno; dancing about architecture again!

I like the DACS preamps, especially with ribbons, for tracking live acoustic chamber, choral, orchestral music. Putting XFMRs and tubes on the mix buss (using LaChapell) yields accuracy and musicality.

I just got CD rights for an a capella cover of Regina Spektor's "On the Radio", performed live by some college students a few weeks ago. I'd post a clip if I knew how.

Sounds a little like the Brauner Phantom I used to own. Not sure If I would want to team the 2 together...

I prefer the sounds recorded with the R88, very natural, not flattering at all - like guitars in a room.

I have an R84 and tend to use it a lot on vocals and acoustic guitars. I recently received a Peluso R14 and it is now a BIG RIVAL to my R84 - in fact, I ordered a matching pair for it.

Any comments on the new M222's

I know Schoeps (Elvo) have recently changed the tube in their M222 body.
Can anyone comment on this new version?

Being an owner of various colette capsules (I have CMC5 bodies), putting them to use with another body is tempting, although price point is steep, but I know the old 701 tube was a big part of the appeal of the M222.

thank you
best regards
Massimo

clip posted using Josephson mics > DACS MicAmp

In the Remote forum I just started a thread and posted there an mp3 clip of some college students singing live. I recorded them using C617s and a DACS MicAmp.

What I love about this combination is is how clean the tracks are and filled with information. I can do anything with them in post because it's as close as you can get to recording without microphones and preamps.

Oh yes, many decisions made, acts performed.

-sold MK4V capsules (have not used them for long time, I found I much prefer more spacy, less sharp sound)
- bougt AEA R88 (thus having R88, pairs of MK21 and MK2 and Horch RM2J)
- selling DAV and Pendulum
- bought CraneSong Flamingo preamp (amazing)
- deciding about the second preamp (Fred Forssell is just sending me his Fetcode and also his very unique new preamp to try)

Nice to have some upgrade from time to time
Now back to music

Very slutty, congrats.

Would you be willing to post any more R88 samples if you record something you consider particularly evocative? It's on my short list to try.

Sure, but actually I already posted quite few samples of R88 vs Schoeps in a thread from some time ago ...

It was very nice, amazing for example on classical guitar and I sure Flamingo will open it a lot more ...
