Hey guys, I have a project coming up doing art songs/lieder kinda stuff for voice and piano. I need a room with a good classical piano (steinway, bosendorfer, petrov, etc...basically anything german or american...or at least inspired by those) in a reasonably neutral room. Looking for 3-4 hour blocks under $100/hr(cheaper the better, of course). Good gear isn't necessary, I'll bring my own. I'm looking into recital hall situations at schools (USC, UCLA, etc.) but I'd like some studio options if possible. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike |

i used to be based at a place in hollywood called paramount recording and their studio c has a very decent yamaha in a rather 70's style dead room, but also has a good iso booth that in can be moved in to.....that room has one of pacifiques old j's in it and a good vibe....the tracking room is a 70's "eastlake" design...ask for adam, they always are willing to deal. The same guys also own ameraycan in north hollywood, whose studio a is really good room and also they own encore in burbank,so if you like those guys their are a lot rooms they can give you. Both pianos are c-7's and paramount c also has a very good b3 with a 147..if yer into that.

Call Tim at Citrus College recording arts program about booking some time. Excellent big room, nice piano for solo work, great mics, PTHD or analog. Bill |

Good Luck... CSUN has a decent piano when it is in tune in their recital hall. Also, USC and UCLA have good instruments but USC is going to be next to impossible to book and UCLA is going to be rather expensive. Zipper Hall at the Colburn School downtown is also excellent- both in acoustics and instruments (Steinway and Fazioli concert grands). Bridges hall at Claremont is also a great acoustic space, but the piano sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. Citrus is a good location to record and it is pretty inexpensive, but while a good acoustic space, it isn't going to give you a purist-type recording if you want it (ie no digital reverb needed). --Ben |
