Cases for 24 ch passive splitter

I've finally caved in to the idea of building my own 24 channel xfmr iso passive splitter as I have more time than money at the mo.

I'd like to build it into a 3u or 4u 19" rack case. With an eye on RFI shielding I'm guessing the following would be good things:

Steel, as thick as possible, not aluminium.

No ventilation slots.

...erm, what else?

If anyone has info on sources of suitable cases in the UK/Europe I'd be very grateful.

Cheers!

Dave.

Why do you want it rack mountable?
Will the splitter be sharing the rack with other equipment or special panels?

Rack mount 'cos I figure it's the most flexible solution - I can rack it with some DI's and if I need a small stagebox somewhere else as well I can easily trail an 8/12 channel multicore from stagebox to splitter. Plus steel rack cases seem to be easier to find than stagebox types.
Please tell me if I'm being a jerk...it wouldn't be the first time...

Cheers.

It's not about the jerk factor...

It's about what you need accomplished vs. what you want to have.

You can find ready made boxes with all the holes cut out if you want.
IMO, a huge steel rack (meaning heavy) is not ideal.
If you want to have a rack mount splitter build it in a rack mountable box that can go into any type of rack...

YMMV

Ok, cheers, I hear ya.

The stagebox designs I've seen with xlr cutouts aren't leaving too much room to cram 24 transformers inside. I have my eye on these transformers...they aren't the most compact avaialble.

For my needs I'm still leaning towards a 3u rack, it might be a bit heavier than a stagebox but I'm pretty slimline elsewhere.

Other ideas/suggestions/sources of materials or information very gratefully received.

Cheers!

The transformers don't have to go right next to the XLR jacks. I'm still working on my splitter, but I plan on having all of the XFRM's mounted in the bottom two spaces of my 6-space rack. I have fit 58 channels in the top 4 spaces.

Multipin PITA

Hey BishopThomas,
I've been watching that thread, cool stuff - 58 channels!!!???
I've yet to draw it all out on paper to actual scale but I'm sure 3u will be more than enough for 24 channels with XLR ins and multipin outs.

Thanks y'all, I'll be sure to take pictures and post them as I go.
