I'll try to answer your questions and if Steve wants to expand or correct I'm sure he'll be around shortly. The snake run in this place is a pain in the... We go out the truck to the roof, then in the air to the awning of the building, down the wall and into the basement through the sidewalk access. This is the place where, at load-out, it gets piled with bags of garbage and makes for a very messy and inconvenient load-out. The electrical panel is right here, so thankfully not too bad there. Then from there the snake runs through the kitchen (we tie it to water pipes to get it out of the way), out a door into the hallway where it then can remain on the ground. From there up the stairs, through a door and another 15' or so to the splitter on stage. The whole run uses one 300' cable and requires only one cable ramp (in the final door).

Not necessarily more sense, but it is definitely another way of doing it. My next rig will be setup this way with preamps on stage and a digital snake to the truck (or record world). Rather than go into detail here, you should do a search for "digital snake." There will be a lot of good reading for you. MADI over fiber or coax is the standard format, but there are others out there as well.

The patch bays are all TT Bantam. In the truck XLR's go to the preamps, then most gear is connected via Elco harnesses to custom panels on the racks.

Yes, I have also thought about this: How are the ribbons treated, 300 ft cable run before preamp?

Best - Jon

Do your XLR cables runs end with an XLR or TRS connection? It looked like you were using TRS patchbays.

Thanks,

Well, post #8 should said it all.

The active XTA DS800 active splitter helps drive that 250 foot 56 pair analog audio snake. Matter of fact we ran 1000 feet using the same system for a Metropole Orchestra broadcast during a IAJE convention in NYC with great results.

Our XLR cables plug into the splitter either directly or via sub snakes.
The splitter has a MASS56 W4 connector which our 56 pair 250' snake attached to.
The snake terminates directly to the patch bay in the truck.
The patch bay is a custom Audio Accessories 52 points per row Bantam jack field.
MASS56 W4, ELCO90 and XLR connectors interface to all equipment and I/O panels as needed.

Yes, the audio/video cable run at the club is a bit tedious, but the feeder cable run is pretty short and sweet.

The whole run uses one 250' snake with a few feet to spare.
ELCOs and XLRs harnesses are attached to the patch bay's rear I/O panel for all CRM interfacing. All the racks and the preamp outputs are via ELCO90 connectors.
The preamp inputs are individual XLR connectors.

The active splitter drives the long cable run with no issues.
The ribbon mics sound very just fine at the end of the cable run.

Where did I have them placed again?

I'm not sure which one you are referring to since we used two TLM103s.

If you read post numbers 13 & 14 I'm sure you will find the answer to your question.

If you need additional information just chime in and I will explain it in further detail.
