| Location recording to DV camera I mostly do post work, but the company I work for does some location shooting onto DV. I have a Sennheiser 416 and a low end fishpole. Currently I have just been plugging the mic directly into the back of the camera. Obviously the problem is that I cant adjust gain at all during shoots and it always causes some problems. Also, the headphone amp out of the camera is super noisy. Whats a good field mixer under a grand to achieve the same thing? We use a canon XL2 which has both line and mic inputs. Or is there a better way to do this? |

http://www.sounddevices.com/products/mx2master.htm Not on the level of Sonosax, etc., but is a rugged, and high quality unit. The pre's are pretty good, and has a lot of the basic location sound recordist's needs. There are other options out there, but this is a great little unit for what you're looking to do. Hope this helps. Best with it,

| Field Mixer Shure is the (Video/TV) industry standard, but I prefer Sound Devices. http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Produc...o_FP33_content http://www.sounddevices.com/products/index.html#field |

| Check out the Whirlwind MD-1 http://www.whirlwindusa.com/md1.html You get variable mic gain, phantom power, headphone amp, and a line-in to mix into the headphones |

I second the SD recommendation in fact in my circle the SD442 is the "industry standard" I wouldn't touch an fp33 but really, just rent a mixer and run the boom through that. | |
