The old TRS Short Trick

I'm familiar with shorting the tip and ring for tapping inserts, but would there be any ill effects on consoles with balanced insert points. I will be using a Soundcraft MH3 that has separate TRS jacks for the sends and returns. Will my shorted TR snake work the same as it would on an unbalanced TRS insert point?

Balanced insert points have a jack for Send, and another one for Return. Shorting T-R in this case equals to adding Hot and Cold, so they will null out - no signal left.

That makes sense. Not the answer I was hoping for, but at least now I know.

I may have to have two snakes, one with tip and ring shorted, and one straight wired. That way I'll be ready for whatever comes my way.
