FWIW when folks record in King's (a similar acoustic) the mics are usually Schoeps MK21 and MK2S. In olden times it was KM53, 54, M49, M50.

It would be virtually impossible to eliminate the acoustic, nor would you want to. If I were doing an orchestra in there I would likely use a main pair of subcardioids with lots of spots.

In a very wet space the apparent front-rear perspective will seem exaggerated, so be prepared. Since this is a school ensemble the reverb may well be their friend.

i was in a cathedral choir in the late '70's and the BBC came to mic us in situe a few times - mainly for live radio 3 shows. Also some recordings were done.

AFAI remember, the majority of the mic placement action was in the transept with an SDC pair, i seem to remember an LDC placed centrally low at the transept end of the choir. that's it, 3 mics, nothing fancy in the nave

the recordings were on nagra - don't quote me on any of this - i wuz yooful bak wen
